Many people are put off by houseplants because they think they require a lot of attention. But that’s not the case with all of them—some only need to be checked on once or twice a month, and you’re all set! Today, we’ll introduce some of the less demanding yet still attractive ones.
Snake Plant You may know this plant by the name of
mother-in-law’s tongue. Its advantage is that it’s resistant to diseases and pests—only very rarely might it be attacked by aphids. It thrives in sunlight and partial shade, so it’s best to place it somewhere that gets light almost all day long. The ideal temperature for its well-being is 15–25°C. You don’t have to worry about watering it either. From early spring through late fall, water it sparingly—only when the soil is completely dry. In winter, reduce watering slightly—once every two or three weeks will be plenty. Its leaves don’t need misting, so simply wipe them with a damp cloth.
Orchid
Everyone knows this plant, and almost everyone likes its appearance. Another bonus is that it only needs to be watered once every ten days—which really anyone can manage. But be sure to make sure it doesn’t stand in water; that could end badly. It thrives in temperatures between 18–20 °C and in direct light. Its only drawback—if you can call it that—is the need for a special potting mix, but a trip to a flower shop or garden center is no problem.
Aloe Vera
When reading this name, some people might think of the drink rather than the plant. You should definitely make room for an aloe vera in your bedroom. It’s a great helper for purifying the air, as it can produce oxygen almost all night long. This plant loves warmth, so for its own good, you shouldn’t expose it to frost. You won’t have to worry about watering it either—in winter, just water it once every two weeks, and in summer a little more often—whenever the soil dries out. If the aloe’s leaves start to curl, that’s a sign it needs more water.
